“Sinners,” Loyalty, and the Truth About Working with the Same Creative Partners

One of the most common criticisms that creative entrepreneurs (especially event planners) face is the accusation of forming cliques or being “gatekeepers.” You know the drill: you work with the same vendors often, and suddenly people are whispering about exclusivity, favoritism, or lack of diversity in your collaborations.

But the new film “Sinners” offers a compelling counter-narrative that all of us in the creative world should reflect on.

Director Ryan Coogler has once again teamed up with actor Michael B. Jordan for this powerful cinematic release. In fact, Michael B. Jordan has starred in every single one of Coogler’s films, from Fruitvale Station to Creed to Black Panther and now Sinners. And they’re not alone. Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, and Martin Scorsese have all been known to work repeatedly with the same actors and/or production teams.

Why? Because shared artistic vision matters. Positive working relationships matter. Proven success matters.

These directors aren’t gatekeeping, they’re building a creative ecosystem rooted in trust, consistency, and mutual growth.

The same logic applies to event planning. When we choose to collaborate with the same floral designer, DJ, or photographer, it’s not necessarily about closing doors. It’s about opening possibilities. We know how to communicate efficiently. We anticipate each other’s needs. We understand how to co-create magic under pressure.

So the next time you feel guilty for leaning into your trusted creative circle, remember this: some of the most iconic art in history was made by teams who understood the power of familiar synergy.

There’s nothing wrong with building your dream team and sticking with them as you rise.
