Do You Have Insurance for Your E-Commerce Shop?

Yesterday, I mentioned that business coaches, on-line educators and influencers need professional liability insurance. Today, I’m talking to those of you who host on-line stores on your web site. If you have an e-commerce shop, consider getting insurance coverage. Why? You want some protection if a hacker infiltrates your web site and steals your proprietary information. This insurance also protects your customer’s private and financial information.

And by the way, having an on-line business doesn’t mean you have to be “selling” something. If you give products and/or services away as a lead magnet, you may be considered an on-line business too. It’s not about what you sell, it’s about what you collect. I’m talking about the collection of the personal identifiable information of your customers.

The insurance I’m referencing is called Internet (or Technology) Security Liability Insurance. Talk to your insurance advisor about the coverage you need for the services you provide, because your general liability insurance may not cover your on-line shop or your downloads.
