Six Words Event Pros Must Retire to Elevate Their Brand

Your Words Translate Your Value

If you are an event planner or an event planning professional who wants to elevate your brand, increase your fees, and shift how clients treat you, it starts with your language. The words you use affect how others perceive you, which ultimately affects the value you bring to the table. And, all of this can occur before you even submit a proposal. For professional event planners ready to be seen as leaders, here are six words and phrases that event professional must retire to elevate their brand and fees.

1. “Coordinator”

Try to avoid using the word, “coordinator” to describe your job. If you lead a creative vision, manage complex budgets, direct vendor teams, and solve high-stakes problems, you are not simply coordinating. You are producing; you are directing; and you are leading strategic event execution.

2. “Just”

The word, “just.” Just a planner; just helping; just assisting. That single word quietly diminishes your expertise. You are never “just” anything. Your work requires experience, intuition, and professional judgment. So, own it.

3. “Package(s)”

Then, there are “packages.” Packages sound transactional and boxed-in. High-level event planning services deliver strategy, customization, and outcomes. Luxury clients and corporate clients respond to language that reflects expertise, not pre-set bundles.

4. “I don’t like public speaking”

Another phrase to release is “I don’t like speaking publicly.” Leadership requires visibility. Whether you’re guiding clients, presenting ideas, or advocating for your vision, your voice is part of your value as an event industry professional.

5. “I don't mean to sound pushy”

Let go of the phrase, “I don’t want to seem pushy.” You are not pushing anything. You are providing clarity. And, clarity builds trust, confidence, and leadership.

6. “This is probably a silly question”

Finally, retire the phrase, “This is probably a silly question.” It never is. Asking questions protects your client, your process, and your business.

The Language You Use Trains People How to Value You

Here’s the truth: the language you use trains people how to value you. If you want to be seen as an expert event planner, trusted advisor, and industry leader, your words must reflect that first.

Your elevated event business begins with elevated language.
