What the “Kelly Rowland” of Houseplants Reminded Me About Client Care

My new plant order arrived this weekend, but, it wasn’t just any ol’ plant. This was the Monstera Thai Constellation. Yes, the “Kelly Rowland” of houseplants. (The Monstera Albo would be the Beyoncé of houseplants, but I digress.) As soon as I got my hands on the box containing my plant, I opened my e-mail, because I knew The Sill (that’s where I ordered it from) was going to come through with instructions on how to unbox; how to acclimate; how to not accidentally kill it with love. Even though I’ve watched more plant TikToks than I care to admit, I wanted their expert guidance because I trusted them and I paid them. So, I wanted to hear from them. And, here’s the most valuable lesson that the “Kelly Rowland” of houseplants taught me about elevating client care.

Your Clients Want Your Expert Guidance

And, believe me when I say that your clients and customers feel the same way. Even if they’ve booked your services before (and, this may or may not be plant #125 for me… shhh, don’t tell Chris Wooten!), they still want to be walked through the process with care, clarity, and a little dose of joy.

Here’s Your Client Care Checklist

  • Don’t leave your clients hanging after they say yes.
  • Have a welcome process in place.
  • Send them that reassuring “Here’s what happens next” email.
  • Educate them, guide them, and sprinkle in a little excitement.

Education = Care

And, when clients feel cared for, they come back (good); they refer you (better), and they become part of your business garden and help it grow (best!).

Service starts the moment your customers click “purchase”

Whether you’re shipping houseplants or planning house-parties (ahem, weddings), remember that the service starts the moment they click “purchase.” Stay rooted!  (Sorry! I couldn’t help myself)
